A public interest litigation has been filed in the Punjab-Haryana High Court seeking a stay on the screening of the recently released film Bhavai Ravanaleela. The petitioner said that this film is going to hurt the sentiments of Hindus. The High Court said that first the demand should be placed before the Board of Film Certification and the Central Government. On this the petitioner withdrew the petition.

Ajay Kumar of Hoshiarpur had filed a public interest litigation saying that all Hindus have immense faith in Lord Ram and Mother Sita. After watching this film, objectionable scenes have been filmed showing Mata Sita in the film. It is depicted in the film that Mata Sita has a love affair with Ravana, which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances and has hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus.

The petitioner said that freedom of expression does not mean that anyone should be allowed to hurt the religious sentiments of anyone. At the same time, the question was raised on the Censor Board as to how such a film was allowed to be screened. The petitioner said that the petitioner had also given a demand letter to the Ludhiana DC on September 25 for a ban on the screening of the film. With no action taken, now the petitioner has to take refuge in the High Court.
