Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four runs in a thrilling IPL 2021 match played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. In this match, the bowlers showed their mettle. RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hershal Patel and Daniel Christian, who are in great form this season, justified Kohli’s decision and did not allow Hyderabad to score much and the team lost seven wickets and managed to score only 141 runs. Bangalore had trouble achieving this easy goal. The match went to the last ball where RCB needed six runs off one ball to win. AB de Villiers could not score. RCB could only manage 137 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs and lost the match.
Bangalore had a bad start. He lost three wickets for a total of 38. On the fifth ball of the first over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the wicket of Virat Kohli and gave his team great success. Christian was sent up but the batsman who came in at number three could only make one run. His wicket fell to a total score of 18. Stormy bowler Umran Malik took his first IPL wicket by dismissing Shrikar Bharat. Bharat scored 12 off 10 balls with the help of a four and a six.
Handled by Maxwell, Padikkal
The Bangalore team was on the backfoot due to continuous loss of wickets but Maxwell took over the team once again. He played a brilliant innings. He was run out when it looked like Maxwell would lead the team to victory. He scored 40 runs. After this Devdutt Padikkal took over the team. However, he also led the team to victory and returned to the pavilion. Padikkal, who scored 41, fell victim to Rashid Khan on the fifth ball of the 17th over.
De Villiers failed
From here, the responsibility of giving victory to the team was on the stormy batsman AB de Villiers. RCB needed 13 runs in the last over. De Villiers hit a six in the last over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but Bhubaneswar also made a brilliant comeback. RCB needed six runs on the last ball to win but de Villiers could not hit the winning six and the team lost.
Amazing Bangalore bowlers
Earlier, the Hyderabad batsmen failed to put up a big score in the face of impressive bowling by Hershal Patel (three for 33), Christian (two for 14) and Yujvendra Chahal (one for 27). Ahmed and Mohammad Siraj bowled economically and scored 21 and 17 runs in four and three overs respectively but they did not get any wicket. Apart from Jason Roy (44) and skipper Kane Williamson (31), no batsman was able to play for Hyderabad. The two also shared 70 runs for the second wicket. The Hyderabad batsmen could add only 50 runs in the last eight overs. Abhishek Sharma (13) hit fours and sixes in the second over off George Garton’s consecutive balls. On the fourth ball, Mohammad Siraj leaked his catch on the fine leg but on the next ball he caught Glenn Maxwell at mid on. Williamson started his innings with two fours on Siraj. Opener Roy also hit a four on Garton. Hyderabad scored 50 for one in the power play.
The pair applied a break on the pace
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz and leg-spinner Chahal paused at run rate. Roy and Williamson played some good shots in between. Williamson, however, failed to take advantage of a good start and was bowled by Herschel. He hit four fours off 29 balls. Priyam Garg (15) completed the team’s run-scoring century in the 14th over by hitting a six on Chahal. In the same over, the umpire caught Roy behind the wicket but the decision to take DRS went in favor of the batsman. Christian struck out Garg and Roy in the 15th over to give Sunrisers a double blow. Garg caught AB de Villiers at deep midwicket while Roy returned to the pavilion after catching the bowler. Roy hit five fours off 38 balls. Chahal bowled Abdul Samad (01) and Sunrisers scored 117 for five. Riddhiman Saha also made 10 runs in eight balls and caught de Villiers on Herschel’s ball. Jason Holder, meanwhile, attempted to increase the run rate with fours on Christian and Herschel. He returned to the pavilion with 16 runs on the last ball.
