Sao Paulo | The government of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo has suspended football programs for at least two weeks due to an increase in coronavirus infections and deaths. Emergency measurements, part of the comprehensive sanctions designed to limit the spread of the virus, will begin on March 15 and end on March 30, Xinhua news agency reported.
This weekend however the Sao Paulo State Championship match will proceed as planned.
“We have reached a critical moment, the most difficult moment of the epidemic,” Governor Joao Doria said in a video. Brazil is in trouble and if we don’t put a brake on the virus, Sao Paulo will be no different.
Brazil’s Covid-19 death toll rose to more than 2,000 for the second day in a row on Thursday. According to the country’s health ministry, the epidemic has so far claimed more than 273,000 deaths while a total of 1.13 crore cases have been confirmed.
